Sighting in Eymet, April 24, 1976

Dordogne, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France

Sighting on April 24, 1976 in Eymet (Dordogne, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably a weather phenomenon (storm, lightning, cloud…) (class B).

What happened

The gendarmerie looked into this case after articles appeared in the local press about an unusual phenomenon seen by several people. At around 4 p.m., a couple out in the countryside first heard an unfamiliar noise, like a strong movement of air. Two glowing green discs then appeared about 300 m from them. Both objects suddenly dived very fast toward the ground and vanished. A violent gust of wind followed, and then snow fell. The same sequence happened twice more.

In the surrounding area, other people noticed interference on their television sets at the same time.

Based on information gathered by the local gendarmerie brigade, GEIPAN concluded that the event was probably an electromagnetic phenomenon caused by a local weather event. The case was classified B, probably identified.
