Sighting in Flixecourt, May 8, 1980

Somme, Hauts-de-France, France

Sighting on May 8, 1980 in Flixecourt (Somme, France). GEIPAN considers the phenomenon probably identified (class B).

What happened

At about 11:30 p.m., gendarmes were called to the site of an unusual phenomenon. One witness, deeply shaken, said that their bedroom had suddenly been flooded with a bright light and that they had sensed the presence of a humanoid shape in the room. Through the window, the witness and their sister had watched a luminous object move.

The gendarmes found no physical traces and gathered no other testimony in the area to back up these statements. Other people were at home in rooms facing the right way and, given the scale of what was described, should have seen the phenomenon, but they did not. The guard dogs, which are normally very aggressive at night at the slightest light, did not stir. The gendarmerie's inquiry also revealed a certain fragility in the witness.

GEIPAN classified the case as B. The most likely explanation is that the witness was misled by the lights of vehicles, easily visible from the bedroom window, while probably being in a state of particular sensitivity to the supernatural.
