Sighting in Forbach, August 27, 1976

Moselle, Grand Est, France

Sighting on August 27, 1976 in Forbach (Moselle, France). GEIPAN considers the phenomenon probably identified (class B).

What happened

At about 9:16 p.m., a witness who was an amateur astronomer looked up at a cloudy sky and noticed an object that caught their attention, as had already happened on earlier occasions. They pointed out the passing craft, which was circular in shape, to another person. A rather orange light spread out from the back of the object.

During the investigation, the witness provided a detailed description, a sketch of the object and its trajectory. No other testimony was collected. GEIPAN concluded that the witness had probably observed an aircraft on several successive occasions, and classified the case as B (probably identified).
