Sighting in Fort-de-France, February 7, 2010

Martinique, France

Sighting on February 7, 2010 in Fort-de-France (Martinique, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

Shortly before dawn, a motorist was driving on the A1 national road toward Fort-de-France. A point of light, which the witness described as a non-twinkling "star", "overtook" them over roughly 300 metres. Its altitude was estimated at no less than 700 metres. At the end of that straight stretch of road, the light vanished all at once. The sighting lasted about ten seconds, and no particular sound was heard.

The investigation looked at several possibilities: plasma on a power line, a reflection, a meteor, or visual fatigue. None could be confirmed, and none could be clearly ruled out. Given this uncertainty and the low level of strangeness of the case, which comes down to a distant point of light moving in a straight line, the GEIPAN classified it C, meaning there was not enough information to reach a conclusion. New information could still confirm or rule out one of these hypotheses.
