What happened

Between 9:00 and 9:10 p.m., several people spread across the Gard and Ardèche departments saw a reddish luminous phenomenon cross the sky. It moved from the southwest toward the northeast. The witnesses described it as a glowing ball with a trail behind it. No sound was heard during the sighting.

The GEIPAN investigation concluded that the witnesses had most likely seen an atmospheric re-entry. The case is classed B, meaning probably identified.
