Sighting in Génelard, January 6, 2017

One witness reported repeated sightings, first on 6 and 7 January and then on 25 and 26 February 2017. They described colored phenomena moving across the sky or close to the ground. The sightings were long, starting around 8:30 p.m. and sometimes lasting until daybreak. According to the witness, they happened almost every night, with or without cloud, at ground level or even on the ground, as well as in the sky, both in front of and behind the trees. They were mostly glows, but at times there seemed to be a craft as well. The witness also mentioned noises in the sky and creaking trees, and said that photos viewed on a computer could move or reveal their name in the trees.

GEIPAN received only one account, gathered through a questionnaire and phone calls. Given how strange the account was, it tried to hear from the other people present. The witness's spouse refused to testify. Two friends of the witness promised to do so but never followed through; both did, however, describe strange elements by phone, similar in nature (glows in the sky and on the ground) but only partly overlapping. Gendarmes present one evening noticed nothing, although the witness felt the phenomenon was weaker that night but still present.

GEIPAN classified the case as C. The refusal of three people to testify greatly weakens the consistency of the account, which is too weak to confirm the strange nature of a single witness's observation. The disagreement between what the gendarmes saw and what the main witness perceived further adds to this lack of consistency. Reliable information is lacking.
