Sighting in Gensac-sur-Garonne, September 2, 2012

Haute-Garonne, Occitanie, France

Sighting on September 2, 2012 in Gensac-sur-Garonne (Haute-Garonne, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably a light from the ground (searchlight, laser, vehicle…) (class B).

What happened

At around 4 a.m., several people saw a circular shape in a fully overcast sky. Its diameter was estimated at between 50 and 100 m. It moved silently at low altitude and contained about fifteen fixed lights. The whole thing rotated on itself. The lights then went out abruptly and the shape vanished, at about 4:20 a.m. Only one account was collected, along with a drawing made by the witness.

According to GEIPAN, the description strongly resembles the light displays used in nightclubs, and a club in Cazères or Martres often uses this kind of equipment. The witness was surprised not to see any beam rising into the sky, but such a beam is only visible in humid weather. That day, the Toulouse-Blagnac station recorded relatively dry air (50% humidity) and total cloud cover (8/8), which are ideal conditions for this type of projector to show its full effect. The end of the sighting also matches the closing time of nightclubs. GEIPAN classified the case as B: probable sighting of a Skyrose-type light display.
