Sighting in Avignonet-Lauragais, October 12, 2021

Haute-Garonne, Occitanie, France

Sighting on October 12, 2021 in Avignonet-Lauragais (Haute-Garonne, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

A witness was out on their terrace in the early morning when a fast, silent object passed by, moving from east to west. They estimated its altitude at between 100 and 150 metres. The object was barrel-shaped and dark brown. The witness also noticed a shooting star just as the object's path came to an end.

The sighting lasted only about 1.5 seconds. There was a single witness and no photo or video of the phenomenon, so the GEIPAN considered the case to have low consistency. The investigation ruled out an object carried by the wind, a fireball and an aircraft. With too little information and no corroborating account from other witnesses, the GEIPAN classified the case as C (insufficient data).
