Sighting in Hasnon, April 5, 2020
Nord, Hauts-de-France, France
Sighting on April 5, 2020 in Hasnon (Nord, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably an aircraft (plane, helicopter…) (class B).
What happened
At 12:55 pm, from their garden, the witness saw a white, round and fairly bright object cross the sky quickly. It followed a straight path from east to west, at an elevation of about 20°. The witness heard no noise and saw no trail. The sighting was very brief, and the sun was behind the witness. It was the only account collected, with no photo; GEIPAN rated it as moderately consistent, since the information given was clear and relevant despite how short the observation was.
The investigation concluded that the witness had probably seen an aircraft, whose fuselage, strongly lit by the sun, looked like a white object. The intense lighting combined with the low elevation made it impossible to make out the wings. The lack of a condensation trail is explained by an altitude probably too low for one to form. The aircraft was likely fairly close, which gave an impression of high speed that was only apparent. Because the wind was not carrying the sound toward the witness, no noise reached them. The case is classified B: probably an aircraft.
