Sighting in Lille, June 6, 1997

Nord, Hauts-de-France, France

Sighting on June 6, 1997 in Lille (Nord, France). After investigation, GEIPAN considers this phenomenon unexplained (class D).

What happened

At around 11 p.m., a witness who was in their garden noticed a motionless luminous ball in the sky. It looked about four times smaller than the Moon. After a few minutes, a second ball arrived at very high speed and stopped beside the first one. The two then left together, again at great speed, heading north.

The witness had called a friend, who was able to see the two balls leaving. According to the information gathered, the gendarmerie apparently received other calls about the phenomenon. The GEIPAN found no explanation and classified the case as D (unexplained).
