Sighting in Huttenheim, July 16, 2010

Bas-Rhin, Grand Est, France

Sighting on July 16, 2010 in Huttenheim (Bas-Rhin, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

At about 11:30 pm, two people saw two luminous phenomena cross the sky, though only one of them gave a account of it. The witness first noticed a very bright white light, similar to a large star, moving quickly toward the northwest. After about a minute it faded and then vanished. Curious, the witness went to fetch binoculars. On returning, they again saw a moving luminous phenomenon, this time circular in shape. It accelerated and oscillated as it moved away, then disappeared.

GEIPAN considered the case to have a relatively low level of strangeness, and the observation shows many characteristics of a satellite pass. However, the hypothesis could not be confirmed because precise information was missing: the exact time was not known, and the satellite pass records for 2010 were not available. The case was therefore classified C, insufficient data.
