Sighting in Hyères, June 26, 2009

Var, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, France

Sighting on June 26, 2009 in Hyères (Var, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

At around 11:30 p.m., two witnesses were at home when a very bright phenomenon passed by, which intrigued them. They described it as rising up from the ground and moving without any noise. The observation lasted some time, and the strong brightness of the phenomenon was noted.

One of the witnesses sent GEIPAN a photograph taken from a film shot during the sighting. GEIPAN considered that the rising trajectory, the duration and the brightness pointed to a real observation, one that would have benefited from additional evidence. However, despite several follow-up requests, no further information came in, which made any investigation impossible. The case was therefore classified C, for insufficient data: it was the observation of a luminous phenomenon in motion.
