Sighting in La Rochelle, December 5, 2012

Charente-Maritime, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France

Sighting on December 5, 2012 in La Rochelle (Charente-Maritime, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

At around 9:45 p.m., the witness was at home on the sixth floor when they noticed a very bright phenomenon in a clear sky. The light seemed to conceal a dark-colored "craft". The object stayed motionless for about ten minutes, with no sound heard, and then vanished.

No one else reported seeing it, which GEIPAN considered very surprising given how densely populated the city is. The gendarmerie carried out an investigation and carefully checked with the aviation and security authorities. GEIPAN then wanted to conduct an on-site investigation with the witness, but they declined. Since the investigation could not be completed, the case is classified C because of insufficient information.
