Sighting in La Teste-de-Buch, July 13, 2013

Gironde, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France

Sighting on July 13, 2013 in La Teste-de-Buch (Gironde, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably a sky lantern (class B).

What happened

One night, between 11:30 and 11:40 pm, a witness noticed several glowing orange balls crossing the sky one after another, without making any sound. The sight intrigued the witness, who took photographs.

According to GEIPAN, the account and the photos show all the typical features of a passage of Thai lanterns: orange balls drifting with the wind. The wind recorded at Cap Ferret was blowing from the north-east. The time of day and the period of the year are also well suited to this kind of event.

GEIPAN therefore classified the case as B: a probable sighting of Thai lanterns.
