Sighting in La Verpillière, April 25, 1983

Isère, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France

Sighting on April 25, 1983 in La Verpillière (Isère, France). GEIPAN considers the phenomenon probably identified (class B).

What happened

Several witnesses noticed an oval-shaped object in the sky for about half an hour, between 8:15 and 8:45 a.m. It was light in color, almost transparent, and at times looked metallic or even silvery. The object moved very slowly from the west toward the south-southwest. Clouds hid it several times, and it eventually went into the clouds and vanished completely.

The investigation concluded that the witnesses had probably seen a balloon, of the weather balloon type. GEIPAN classified the case as B (probably identified).
