Sighting in Lamnay, October 26, 2011

Sarthe, Pays de la Loire, France

Sighting on October 26, 2011 in Lamnay (Sarthe, France). After investigation, GEIPAN considers this phenomenon unexplained (class D).

What happened

Between 9:30 and 11 p.m., a witness noticed several blue, pink and yellow lights above the trees, about 200 m from their house. The lights were inside a single thick cloud, while the rest of the sky was clear. They kept switching on and then off.

The witness woke a friend, who also saw the phenomenon but soon went back to bed. The witness watched it several times over more than an hour, from various windows of the house. No particular noise was heard. In the end, frightened, the witness went to bed. No photograph was taken. In the following days, the witness and their spouse saw no trace on the ground in the area. No other testimony was collected.

The investigation considered aircraft, a laser and an air ionisation phenomenon, but none of these hypotheses was convincing enough to be retained. GEIPAN classified the case D ("D1") because of its strangeness, the single witness account, and the lack of any recording or trace.
