Sighting in Le Mans, November 21, 2010

Sarthe, Pays de la Loire, France

Sighting on November 21, 2010 in Le Mans (Sarthe, France). After investigation, GEIPAN considers this phenomenon unexplained (class D).

What happened

Around 5:55 pm, the witness opened their kitchen window, on the ninth floor of their apartment building, and noticed an unusual light phenomenon to the east. The sky was cloudy. Three lights, one red and two blue, arranged in a triangle, were moving and quickly drew closer to the building.

The witness then made out a darker triangular shape outlined by the lights, and heard a rustling sound of air. The phenomenon vanished after passing over the building. The whole sighting lasted between 10 and 15 seconds. No other witness account was collected.

GEIPAN considered the testimony to be of good consistency: the questionnaire was very thoroughly completed and the field investigation confirmed the details of the observation. It remains a single-witness account, however, with the uncertainties that implies. The strangeness was rated high, since the phenomenon does not resemble the best-known misidentifications. Its movement nonetheless stayed within the dynamics of present-day flying objects, even though it matched no known craft. The case was classified D (unexplained).
