Sighting in Le Pellerin, April 21, 1980

Loire-Atlantique, Pays de la Loire, France

Sighting on April 21, 1980 in Le Pellerin (Loire-Atlantique, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

Just before noon, a witness heard a whistling sound and was frightened by a burst of fire. An object fell a few metres away, coming from the north-west. The witness heard no sound of impact and saw no smoke. They described the object as about the size of a bucket, roughly 20 cm across, and showing the colours of the rainbow. The source states that the witness was a gardener.

Gendarmes called to the scene recorded marks on the ground: over a circle about 100 m in diameter, the soil was covered with a whitish powder and the grass was burnt. There was no crater or other sign of impact. The next day, a metal part was found.

GEIPAN concluded that this was a brief observation of an object falling, with traces left on the ground. The analysis results could not be found in its archives. The case is therefore classed C, for insufficient data, until those items are recovered.
