Saône-et-Loire, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, France

Sighting on October 9, 1979 in Louhans (Saône-et-Loire, France). GEIPAN considers the phenomenon probably identified (class B).

What happened

Late in the evening, several people noticed a luminous object flying at low altitude. It made a very loud noise as it moved, which frightened some of the witnesses as well as some animals.

GEIPAN concluded that this was most likely an aircraft passing by. One of the witnesses recognised the tail lights of a helicopter, which supports that explanation. The case is classified B: probably identified.
