Sighting in Lyon, April 12, 2008

Rhône, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France

Sighting on April 12, 2008 in Lyon (Rhône, France). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty: it was the Moon (class A).

What happened

During the night, at 2:48 a.m., a witness noticed an unusual orange-red light in the sky. They watched it for two to three minutes, until it vanished at the horizon.

The GEIPAN found the case to have little strangeness and little consistency: there was only one witness, and the description of the phenomenon closely resembled the appearance of the Moon. The Moon, which was setting at the time, was located right in the direction in which the witness was looking. The investigation concluded that the witness had definitely mistaken the setting Moon for something else, and the case was classified A.
