Sighting on September 23, 1979 in Maubeuge (Nord, France). After investigation, GEIPAN considers this phenomenon unexplained (class D).

What happened

At around 6 a.m., several people saw a point of light moving silently across the sky toward the north-east. It gave off green and red colours.

Shortly afterwards, a light flooded the witnesses' car and lit up the whole width of the road. It then went out suddenly. One of the witnesses saw a shape climb into the sky at an angle of about 45°, making no sound and leaving a red flame behind it.

The investigation carried out at the site turned up no evidence, and no other information about the phenomenon was gathered. The case remained unexplained and was classified D by the GEIPAN.
