Sighting in Thiant (59) Mai, May 1, 1990

France

Sighting on May 1, 1990 in Thiant (59) Mai (France). After investigation, GEIPAN considers this phenomenon unexplained (class D).

What happened

At around 11 p.m., two young people were driving when one of them noticed a motionless red point in the sky. The car was stopped and both witnesses watched the point for about ten minutes, during which it did not move. It then shifted sideways very quickly before coming to a halt again.

About two minutes later, it had come closer to the witnesses. They could then make out three white lights arranged in an isosceles triangle, with the red point at the center. The whole thing passed over the car and then moved away at high speed. No sound was heard at any point during the observation.

Despite articles in the press, no other witness could be found. The phenomenon was never explained, and the GEIPAN classified the case as D (unexplained).
