Sighting in Mauzé-sur-le-Mignon, April 20, 2008

Deux-Sèvres, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France

Sighting on April 20, 2008 in Mauzé-sur-le-Mignon (Deux-Sèvres, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

A driver, from inside their vehicle, photographed a luminous phenomenon at 8:44 p.m. that had caught their attention. The exact date is uncertain: it was either 20 or 27 April 2008. GEIPAN did not get the photograph from the photographer directly but through an indirect witness.

The image most likely shows the sun reflected in the windscreen and/or in the camera lens, along with water droplets on the windscreen lit up by the sun. A picture of this kind, with lens flare and assorted reflections, is not strange in itself.

The case was classified C because of insufficient data: the account was very brief, the direct witness never described what they had seen with their own eyes, and the original photograph was not available. GEIPAN's conclusion was a probable reflection of the sun on a car windscreen.

Account rewritten by SkyUnknown from the investigation report published by GEIPAN (CNES). The original text and case documents are on the official record.
