Sighting in Merville, March 31, 2008

Nord, Hauts-de-France, France

Sighting on March 31, 2008 in Merville (Nord, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably a light from the ground (searchlight, laser, vehicle…) (class B).

What happened

A group of people at an airfield noticed a luminous phenomenon that puzzled them. For about ten minutes, between 10:20 and 10:30 in the morning, white rings of light moved across the sky one after another. No sound was heard during the observation.

During the investigation, a local witness stated that restaurants or dance venues in the area often use laser projectors for advertising displays. GEIPAN therefore classified the case as B: it was probably a light show.
