Sighting in Montaigu, May 1, 2008

Vendée, Pays de la Loire, France

Sighting on May 1, 2008 in Montaigu (Vendée, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably a sky lantern (class B).

What happened

After reading an article dated 8 May 2008 about luminous balls, a witness came forward to describe what they had seen themselves during the night of 1 to 2 May 2008, at around 11 p.m. They had noticed a kind of luminous diamond shape in the sky, which looked three-dimensional to them.

The object was moving northward and no sound was heard. It eventually vanished at the horizon.

The investigation concluded that the witness had probably seen a Thai lantern drifting past. The case was therefore classified B, meaning probably identified.
