Sighting in Nantes, June 7, 2010

Loire-Atlantique, Pays de la Loire, France

Sighting on June 7, 2010 in Nantes (Loire-Atlantique, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably an aircraft (plane, helicopter…) (class B).

What happened

The witness saw a luminous, circular object around half past midnight. It seemed to hang motionless in the sky. After about 15 seconds it vanished quickly, making no noise at all.

In December 2010, the GEIPAN received additional information from the SNA-Ouest. According to it, the witness most likely saw an aircraft in its approach and landing phase at Nantes airport: a commercial flight touched down there at 12:37 a.m. local time. The plane's front landing light was described as a "dazzling white ball of light" surrounded by flashes, which would correspond to the flashing lights on the wings. The case was classified B: it was probably the passage of an aircraft.
