What happened

At about 9:30 p.m., several witnesses noticed an object in the sky that looked like a very large star. It was very bright, its color gradually changed, and it then quickly disappeared toward the horizon.

The investigation established that the witnesses had seen the planet Venus. At that time of year it was especially visible, owing to particular weather conditions. GEIPAN classified the case as A (identified): a large star mistaken for Venus.
