Sighting in Lugny-Champagne, April 8, 2025

Cher, Centre-Val de Loire, France

Sighting on April 8, 2025 in Lugny-Champagne (Cher, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

Shortly after midnight, at 12:22 a.m. during the night of 7 to 8 April 2025, a witness was looking at the Moon through a telescope from the entrance of their home. A large shadow crossed their field of view. The witness did not get the impression that a physical object was passing between them and the Moon. They perceived a shadow instead, which gave an impression of "transparency". The phenomenon lasted about one second. No other testimony was collected.

GEIPAN rated the consistency of the case as low, since there was only one witness and the observation was indirect, made through the telescope, and very brief. Given the dark appearance and apparent size of the phenomenon, the hypothesis considered was a flying animal passing between the telescope and the Moon (a bird, an insect, a bat, etc.). However, this hypothesis could not be strengthened because of the low consistency of the case. GEIPAN therefore classified it as "C": unidentified phenomenon due to insufficient data.
