Sighting in Ouzouer-sur-Loire, November 2007

Loiret, Centre-Val de Loire, France

Sighting in November 2007 in Ouzouer-sur-Loire (Loiret, France). GEIPAN considers the phenomenon probably identified (class B).

What happened

The witness was driving along a departmental road with a passenger, at some point between 8 and 10 p.m. They could not remember the exact date, which they placed within a span of about one week. The two occupants suddenly saw a luminous phenomenon in the middle of the sky that seemed to dive toward the ground. The sighting lasted only one to two seconds. The light was yellow and drop-shaped, and it moved without any sound before quickly disappearing at the horizon.

After reviewing the description, in particular the trajectory and the duration, GEIPAN concluded that the witnesses had probably seen a bolide entering the atmosphere. The teardrop shape is thought to come from the luminous trail, known as a "wake", that follows the object. The case is classified B, probably identified.
