Sighting in Parçay-Meslay, April 13, 2015
Indre-et-Loire, Centre-Val de Loire, France
Sighting on April 13, 2015 in Parçay-Meslay (Indre-et-Loire, France). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty: it was a train or group of satellites (class A).
What happened
At 9:55 p.m., a witness who often watches the night sky and knows it well first saw a brief, intense white flash. Three red balls then appeared, holding still relative to one another in a triangle. The phenomenon made no sound. Its brightness, strong at first, gradually faded until it vanished. The sighting lasted less than 10 seconds. No other witness account was collected.
GEIPAN rated the case as of moderate strangeness and moderate consistency, since there was only one witness but the description was precise. The investigation concluded that the witness had mistaken a triplet of Chinese military satellites, Yaogan 16A, B and C, for something unusual. The phenomenon matched all the typical features of such a triplet, and its brightness, trajectory and timing were fully consistent. The case was classified A.
