Sighting in Plabennec, March 3, 2024

Finistère, Bretagne, France

Sighting on March 3, 2024 in Plabennec (Finistère, France). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty: it was a balloon (class A).

What happened

Around midday, the witness was at home. Through a closed roof window, they noticed a round, blue-green object in the sky that reflected sunlight. It moved steadily in a straight line from west to east, with no noticeable change in speed or direction. After thirty to sixty seconds it had moved too far away for the witness to keep it in sight.

The witness was alone and produced no photo or video, so the GEIPAN rated the case's consistency as medium. The investigation concluded that the object was very probably a novelty Mylar balloon carried by the wind. Three points support this: the round shape, quite ordinary for such a balloon; the reflective blue-green color, typical of Mylar; and the straight, even movement in the direction of the wind. The case is classified A.
