Sighting in Pleumeur-Bodou, June 6, 2015

Côtes-d'Armor, Bretagne, France

Sighting on June 6, 2015 in Pleumeur-Bodou (Côtes-d'Armor, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably a drone (class B).

What happened

On a Saturday at around 10 a.m., a witness near a leisure park noticed something circling in the sky. The object flew in small circles, the way a bird would around its prey, or a drone might. It then suddenly changed course and headed northwest at a very steady speed and without any noise, before disappearing behind the vegetation. Other people were present at the spot, but no other account was collected.

The witness perceived little strangeness, as they themselves considered several explanations, first a gannet, then a drone. Their video shows nothing, but the audio picks up an exchange in which one voice rejects the drone idea because the pilot cannot be seen, an argument another voice disputes. GEIPAN considered both explanations possible, but found that a recreational drone fitted every phase of the sighting better. Given the daytime setting on a Saturday, many potential observers were likely nearby, yet none came forward. The case was classified B: probable drone.
