Sighting in Plougasnou, July 17, 2009

Finistère, Bretagne, France

Sighting on July 17, 2009 in Plougasnou (Finistère, France). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty: it was the International Space Station (ISS) (class A).

What happened

At around midnight, two people, a couple, noticed a very bright white phenomenon moving quickly across the sky above them. One of the two witnesses described the sighting, which lasted about 30 seconds. The phenomenon moved at a steady speed along a straight path, then vanished. No particular sound was noticed during the observation.

GEIPAN found the case to be of low strangeness, but the description was precise and matched a pass of the International Space Station (ISS) in every respect. The case was therefore classified A: identified.
