Sighting in Pointel, April 29, 2025

Around 11 p.m., a witness standing in the garden of their home watched a dark, lens-shaped object for about three minutes. It had a green light at each end and moved at a steady speed, at low altitude, with no noticeable sound. The witness felt it stopped briefly and then changed course. They were on the phone at the time, wearing a headset, and ran to keep the object in sight as it repeatedly vanished behind foliage and the house. The witness was intrigued by the unusual dark shape, the fluorescent green lights and the stop mid-flight, and also noticed their cat, goats and cows reacting. No usable photo or video was obtained. GEIPAN nonetheless judged the testimony consistent, as it was clear and precise despite there being no other witness.

Radar records from the CAPCODA of the Armée de l'Air et de l'Espace showed that the sighting matched two military aircraft flying in formation and fitted with slime lights, which are fluorescent green lights. The lens shape is explained by large aircraft seen at night, in profile and at low altitude. The green lights came from the slime lights, confirmed by the military, and/or from the green light on the right wing, which faced the witness throughout. The lack of noise is explained by the distance (at least 3 km), the quiet design of these aircraft, a light southwest wind and probably the headset. The animals may have been frightened by the witness's raised voice and running. The apparent stop and sudden acceleration match a change of heading: an aircraft moving away to the northeast turned and came back from the southeast, which gives an impression of standing still as it approaches.
