Sighting in Pouancé, December 20, 1977

Maine-et-Loire, Pays de la Loire, France

Sighting on December 20, 1977 in Pouancé (Maine-et-Loire, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

A luminous object was seen several times over two days: around 10 p.m. on 19 December, then at 4 a.m. on 20 December, and again around 10 p.m. that same day. Each time, the witnesses watched it for a long while. The object gave off green, orange and red lights in turn, and it moved with distinct stops along the way.

During the gendarmerie's investigation, TV interference was noted at the times the object had appeared in the early part of the night. The idea that it might have been a communications satellite was put forward, but it could not be confirmed because there was not enough information. GEIPAN therefore classified the case as C, meaning the available data were insufficient to reach a conclusion.
