Somme, Hauts-de-France, France

Sighting on September 5, 1993 in Poulainville (Somme, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

Around midnight, four witnesses sitting in their vehicle noticed a bright orange point of light, larger than a star. It moved the way an aircraft would and seemed to be coming closer to them.

The sighting lasted two to three minutes. During that time the object suddenly changed shape, turning into a very elongated diamond or a cigar shape. The witnesses heard no sound.

No further information could be gathered about the sighting. GEIPAN classified it as C, insufficient data: the lack of information made it impossible to determine what the phenomenon was.
