Sighting in Ressons-sur-Matz, 1996

Oise, Hauts-de-France, France

Sighting in 1996 in Ressons-sur-Matz (Oise, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

The account was collected in 2009 and concerns a much older sighting, which took place in 1996 give or take about two years; the witness did not specify the day or month. Around 7 p.m., the witness was driving with their daughter when the two of them saw a white halo, roughly 80 cm by 40 cm, moving at a constant speed.

The halo traveled about 1.5 m above the ground along a path made up of straight segments. It moved from north to south, then made a sharp turn toward the west. No sound was heard during the observation, which lasted about one minute.

No other testimony was obtained. Given how long ago the event occurred, any investigation was difficult, if not impossible. GEIPAN concluded that the witness had seen a luminous phenomenon pass by and classified the case as C, for insufficient data.
