Sighting in Richebourg, April 17, 2011

Pas-de-Calais, Hauts-de-France, France

Sighting on April 17, 2011 in Richebourg (Pas-de-Calais, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

Shortly after midnight, a witness noticed two bright red points of light in the sky, slightly offset from one another. Both moved at the same high speed along a rising path. No other witness account was collected.

The speed and upward trajectory of the lights suggested flares, of the distress-flare type. However, the information received was too limited to confirm this hypothesis or to take the investigation any further. GEIPAN therefore classified the case as C, meaning there was insufficient data.

Account rewritten by SkyUnknown from the investigation report published by GEIPAN (CNES). The original text and case documents are on the official record.
