Sighting in Rogny-les-Sept-Écluses, August 2, 2007

Yonne, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, France

Sighting on August 2, 2007 in Rogny-les-Sept-Écluses (Yonne, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

At around 1 a.m., during the night, two witnesses saw a green luminous ball moving across the sky. It followed a spiralling, downward path and then vanished from view behind a hangar. The sighting was very short, about two seconds, and no sound was heard while it lasted.

No other witness reports were collected in the area. The IPN field investigation led nowhere because it was not possible to get in touch with the witness. The features of the sighting (a two-second duration, a green ball) suggest a meteor that was not on record, but without contact with the witness, and therefore without further information, no real investigation could be carried out. The case is classed C, insufficient data.
