Sighting in Romagnieu, October 20, 2013

Isère, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France

Sighting on October 20, 2013 in Romagnieu (Isère, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

Woken by the rain, the witness went out into their yard in the middle of the night. There they saw a dark, triangular object with a luminous outline, which moved without making any sound. It then gained altitude and merged into the clouds. The sighting was brief.

The description does not match any known phenomenon and does not suggest any of the usual misidentifications. GEIPAN therefore sent an investigator to interview the witness in person, but the witness did not respond to the proposal. Two explanations were considered: a hypnopompic hallucination, meaning one occurring on waking, which the witness rules out by saying they were already fully awake before getting up, or retinal persistence if a light, possibly neon tubes, had been switched on between the bedroom and the yard. An investigation could have confirmed or ruled out these hypotheses, or raised others. Without further information or cross-checking, the case remains classified C, insufficient data.
