Sighting in Romilly-sur-Aigre, April 24, 2019

Eure-et-Loir, Centre-Val de Loire, France

Sighting on April 24, 2019 in Romilly-sur-Aigre (Eure-et-Loir, France). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty: it was a balloon (class A).

What happened

Around 11:20 pm, the witness was at home when their gaze was drawn to the window. They saw two white spheres in the sky, not blinking, moving side by side. The sighting lasted only five seconds. The witness's partner also noticed them but chose not to give a statement, so only one account was collected.

GEIPAN rated the case as having medium consistency: a single witness, clear information but no photos, and a very short observation. The investigation concluded that the witness very probably saw two LED balloons. Several points supported this: the straight path, generally in the direction of the wind; the spherical shape and steady white light; the absence of noise; and the fact that such balloons are often released in small groups, which makes seeing two of them entirely plausible. Since the sighting took place on a Wednesday evening, the balloons could also have been released for a child's birthday. The case was classified A.
