Sighting in Rozérieulles, August 6, 1998

Moselle, Grand Est, France

Sighting on August 6, 1998 in Rozérieulles (Moselle, France). GEIPAN considers the phenomenon probably identified (class B).

What happened

At around 10:40 pm, the witness was sitting in their car, listening to music and looking at the sky. They noticed a luminous shape moving quickly across the sky from south to north. It stayed in view for 15 to 20 seconds.

An inquiry with the air traffic authorities showed that an airliner had passed through at that time. It also turned up an unidentified radar track, which ended at the same time as the witness's sighting. There was no formal proof, but GEIPAN concluded that the witness had probably seen an aircraft, and classified the case B (probably identified).
