Sighting in Saint-Aubin-de-Médoc, October 12, 1977

Gironde, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France

Sighting on October 12, 1977 in Saint-Aubin-de-Médoc (Gironde, France). GEIPAN considers the phenomenon probably identified (class B).

What happened

At around 5:45 a.m., a motorist noticed an object in the sky surrounded by an orange halo that seemed to vibrate or oscillate. No other witness came forward, and neither the gendarmerie nor the Floirac observatory gathered any further account of the phenomenon.

The testimony is very brief. Even so, the investigation concluded that the witness had probably been looking at the rising sun through a cloud, since the sun had risen that day at 5:20 a.m. The case was classified B (probably identified): an optical effect linked to the rising sun.
