Sighting in Saint-Étienne-de-Cuines, August 24, 1980

Savoie, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France

Sighting on August 24, 1980 in Saint-Étienne-de-Cuines (Savoie, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

The witness noticed a very bright shape in the sky at about 3:30 a.m. The glare was so intense that it made observation difficult. Even so, they could make out a pale pink, parachute-like shape coming away from the underside of the object. It stayed visible for only a few seconds.

The luminous ball itself remained in view for more than ten minutes, after which the witness went back to bed. When they woke a few hours later, everything was gone.

No other witness account was collected. GEIPAN classified the case as C (insufficient data) because of the lack of information about the phenomenon, and concluded that it was the observation of a motionless object in the sky.
