Sighting in Saint-Jean-de-Monts, August 5, 2010

Vendée, Pays de la Loire, France

Sighting on August 5, 2010 in Saint-Jean-de-Monts (Vendée, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

At 10:55 p.m., the witness was out for a summer evening walk when they noticed a yellow ball of light. It crossed the sky above the town on a north-to-south path, moving at a moderate speed.

The GEIPAN investigation considered the case to be of little strangeness: it involved a point of light moving in a straight line. The account is also weak, because the orientation and the description of the phenomenon itself are imprecise, its apparent size in particular. The most likely explanation is a large satellite, but this could not be demonstrated. The case was classified C because of the lack of information and the imprecisions noted.

Account rewritten by SkyUnknown from the investigation report published by GEIPAN (CNES). The original text and case documents are on the official record.
