Sighting in Saint-Joseph, December 19, 2008

La Réunion, France

Sighting on December 19, 2008 in Saint-Joseph (La Réunion, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

The GEIPAN received an email with a photograph and a short message. The witness explained that, about a week before Christmas, they had seen a luminous phenomenon moving quickly in a zigzag pattern and had photographed it. The image's EXIF data show that it was taken at 9:24 pm, on the same day the message reached the GEIPAN.

The witness gave no further details, and no one else reported the phenomenon that evening. The GEIPAN had, however, received reports on 14 and 16 December 2008 of Thai lanterns drifting across the sky on Réunion.

The case is classified C, meaning the available data are insufficient to reach a conclusion. The photograph shows the zigzag movement of a luminous object.
