Sighting in Saint-Louis, March 5, 2017
La Réunion, France
Sighting on March 5, 2017 in Saint-Louis (La Réunion, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).
What happened
The witness reported several sightings of unidentified aerospace phenomena in the sky, in particular one on 5 March 2017 above the sea. That day, they watched a yellow-orange cloud for half an hour, and a black ball appeared inside it. The whole thing changed shape throughout the observation. Only one account was collected.
GEIPAN found it unusable. The information provided was imprecise and covered several different sightings without any real distinction between them. The photos and videos of the sky, which were meant to show these phenomena and "invaders", turned out to show either small clouds changing shape in the light of the setting sun (dark clouds left in shadow can take similar shapes) or aircraft, some of which, with black wings and tail, puzzled the investigators. The sense of strangeness the witness felt also seemed to go well beyond what the sky actually showed, and therefore beyond GEIPAN's remit. The witness supplied videos that were barely intelligible, but enough to make clear that they concerned exorcism.
The case is classified C, because there was not enough reliable information.
