Sighting in Saint-Denis, November 16, 1992

La Réunion, France

Sighting on November 16, 1992 in Saint-Denis (La Réunion, France). After investigation, GEIPAN considers this phenomenon unexplained (class D).

What happened

At around 4:30 a.m., a witness was woken by a loud noise like an aircraft jet engine, along with two flashes that lit up their bedroom. They then saw a large, very bright white ball of light. About ten seconds later, a nearby villa was lit in red, and after another noise the white light disappeared. The villa was unoccupied at the time and suffered no damage.

After the white light went out, a red point remained visible above a tree, and a light mist lingered where the white ball had been.

Despite how loud the noise was, no other witness could be found. One neighbor, who had seen nothing, did notice at about the same time that their dogs were very frightened. GEIPAN was unable to identify the phenomenon and classified the case as D, unexplained.
