Sighting on June 22, 2008 in Saint-Sauveur-de-Landemont (Maine-et-Loire, France). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty: it was a sky lantern (class A).

What happened

At about 1:30 in the morning, two witnesses saw around ten orange lights moving across the sky. They heard no noise at all, and they filmed the phenomenon.

The video was clear enough to be informative. Using it, together with the gendarmerie's investigation, investigators tracked down the person who had released the lanterns and the place where the release took place. GEIPAN therefore classified the case as A (identified): the lights were flying lanterns.
