Sighting in Saint-Sulpice-et-Cameyrac, August 3, 2014

Gironde, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France

Sighting on August 3, 2014 in Saint-Sulpice-et-Cameyrac (Gironde, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably a sky lantern (class B).

What happened

The witness saw about twenty spherical objects, red-orange in colour, in the sky. They moved away and disappeared behind the houses of the village. The witness themself thought of Thai lanterns, though they said they knew little about the phenomenon.

GEIPAN considered that orange balls in the sky on a weekend night strongly suggest Thai lanterns. With almost no wind, it was hard to compare the movement of the objects with the direction of the wind. No other witness came forward and nothing was found in the press or on the Internet, so the hypothesis could not be confirmed, although it was judged extremely likely. The case was classified B: Thai lanterns probably released at the end of a private party.
